Principle

Trees to Keep Away from the Home: Peepal, Banyan, Tamarind, Pakad, Ber and More

Peepal, banyan, tamarind and pakad must never stand inside the house premises, and date palm, pomegranate, banana and ber also harm the household. A tree whose shadow falls on the house beyond the first and last prahar of the day causes trouble.

What it does

To avoid illness, quarrels and business loss caused by unsuitable trees.

Where

House premises and surroundings

How to do it

  1. 1Keep peepal, banyan, tamarind and pakad out of the house premises; plant a banyan so far away that even its shadow does not reach the house
  2. 2Do not grow date palm, pomegranate, banana or ber at home
  3. 3Make sure no tree shades the house except in the first and last prahar of the day

Cautions

  • Never cut a peepal, and never let urine or excreta reach its roots, or illness and business loss follow
  • Peepal and banyan always trouble the owner of the house

Explanation and notes

The peepal is a chaitya tree where many deities live. Tamarind brings sourness into the home: quarrels, disputes and court cases, and spirits are said to sit in it. Pomegranate is a tantric tree whose twig pen is used to write mantras and yantras.
