Method

Zoning an Irregular Plot From a Line Parallel to the Measured Wall

For an irregular plot, measure the degree of one wall or axis, draw a line through the centre parallel to that wall, set off the measured tilt to get exact North, and then mark the zones as usual.

What it does

Avoids the common error that puts doors and zones in the wrong place on irregular plots.

Samagri used

  • Plan of the plot
  • Google Earth or compass reading of one wall
  • Chakra or protractor
  • Scale

How to do it

  1. 1Find the centre of the plot with AutoCAD, or by cutting the paper plan to shape and finding its balancing (gravitational) centre.
  2. 2Take the degree of one wall or axis on Google Earth.
  3. 3Draw a straight line through the centre parallel to that wall.
  4. 4Place the centre of the chakra or protractor on the centre and its zero on this line.
  5. 5Set off the measured tilt, for example 20 degrees towards West (340 degrees), and draw exact North.
  6. 6Align N5 of the chakra with exact North, mark the zone lines and draw the 16 zones.

Cautions

  • Do not draw the reference line square to the sheet; draw it parallel to the wall whose degree you took.
  • Many well-known consultants make this mistake and therefore cannot locate doors and zones correctly.

Explanation and notes

Case story: at a large factory in Mumbai a consultant read the plan without proper zoning, treating the West as the front at zero degrees instead of reading it on the diagonal. Transformers in the West and a toilet in the West-North-West were shifted at a cost of about 11 lakh rupees, the transformer and generator going to N4 in the North. The plant, set up in 2022, has been running at a loss.

Principle

32 Outer Devtas of the 81 Pad Grid: 11.25 Degrees Each

The 81 pad grid, used for any house, factory, business or office, has 32 devtas (the 32 digpal) seated around its outer ring in the pishach bhoomi. One round covers 360 degrees, so each outer pad covers 360 divided by 32, that is 11.25 degrees, and half a pad 5.625 degrees.

Principle

Sixteen Zones of 22.5 Degrees and the Three Parts of Each Corner

Directions fall at every 90 degrees, the corner directions (vidisha) at 45 degrees and the zones at every 22.5 degrees, giving 16 zones. Each corner has three parts with different properties, for example Nairitya splits into dakshini nairitya (SSW), nairitya (SW) and paschimi nairitya (WSW).

Principle

North-East Zone: Clarity of Mind and the Place of Worship

About two hours before sunrise the sun sends ultraviolet rays into the North-East, which bring the greatest alertness to the neurons and glial cells of the brain. This pure energy suits the pure soul, so the North-East is the zone of clarity of mind and the place for worship.
