Principle

Which Centre to Use: Whole Plot for the Gate, Built Area for the House

On large plots such as villas, kothis and farmhouses, the whole plot inside the boundary wall is zoned for the gate and outbuildings, while the house itself is zoned on its constructed area alone.

What it does

Avoids losing half the zones of the house by zoning it on the whole plot.

Where

Whole plot for the boundary gate, parking, servant quarters, pet shelter, guard room and goshala; constructed area for the main door and rooms

Cautions

  • Zoning the house on the whole plot shifts or loses half of its zones.

Explanation and notes

There are two kinds of doors: the boundary wall door (gate) and the main door, the entrance of the house itself. If the house is built almost up to the boundary, leaving only about 3 ft, zone the whole plot. If 15 to 20 ft is left on all sides and the house is, say, 30 by 50 ft, use the whole plot for the boundary gate, parking, servant quarters, pet shelter and guards, and the centre of the 30 by 50 ft house for its main door and rooms. For a partly built upper floor take only the built area. A balcony that is connected and fully usable is included in the constructed area, but it is not treated as a cut or extension.

Principle

32 Outer Devtas of the 81 Pad Grid: 11.25 Degrees Each

The 81 pad grid, used for any house, factory, business or office, has 32 devtas (the 32 digpal) seated around its outer ring in the pishach bhoomi. One round covers 360 degrees, so each outer pad covers 360 divided by 32, that is 11.25 degrees, and half a pad 5.625 degrees.

Principle

Sixteen Zones of 22.5 Degrees and the Three Parts of Each Corner

Directions fall at every 90 degrees, the corner directions (vidisha) at 45 degrees and the zones at every 22.5 degrees, giving 16 zones. Each corner has three parts with different properties, for example Nairitya splits into dakshini nairitya (SSW), nairitya (SW) and paschimi nairitya (WSW).

Principle

North-East Zone: Clarity of Mind and the Place of Worship

About two hours before sunrise the sun sends ultraviolet rays into the North-East, which bring the greatest alertness to the neurons and glial cells of the brain. This pure energy suits the pure soul, so the North-East is the zone of clarity of mind and the place for worship.
