Planetary Energy, Building Materials and Kitchen, Bedroom and Staircase Interiors
The class recaps what each direction governs, maps the nine planets and their metals to the eight directions, and ranks how much planetary energy trees, mirrors, water, yantras, pyramids, metals and stones capture. It then covers energy-friendly construction: clay bricks and lime, a lime layer under the plot, the right filling soil, special soils in flooring, mud walls in the NE and copper pyramids in columns. The kitchen is treated in depth, from zone-wise results, burner position and cooking direction to internal zoning, platform shape, materials and colours, with the desi ghee akhand deep as a brahmastra. Bedroom selection by horoscope and age, sleeping direction and decor, and staircase placement, design, step counting and materials complete the session.
1Each direction has a planet and metal: East Sun (gold, copper), SE Venus (white metal), South Mars (copper), SW Rahu-Ketu (panchdhatu), West Saturn (iron), NW Moon (silver), North Mercury (kansa, brass), NE Jupiter (gold, brass)
2Trees capture about 95 percent of planetary energy, mirrors 80, pyramids 65, water 60, yantras 60 to 90, metals 45 and stones 35; plastic captures none
3Spread lime over the whole plot before construction and use only fire-baked clay bricks, never swastik-stamped or fly-ash bricks
4The kitchen is best in SE, then SSE, West and NW; SW, NE and North are dangerous
5Wherever the kitchen is, keep the burner in its SE and cook facing East (else North), never West
6A desi cow ghee akhand deep lit in sagun in the kitchen's SE is given as a brahmastra
7Kitchen platform L or I shaped, never U; stone under the burner; no black stone, mirrors or south door
8Grid each room from its own centre: fridge NW, spices South, knives SW, water NNE or ENE, vegetables East, sagun kalash NE
9Choose the bedroom by horoscope and age; WSW suits everyone; sleep with feet North (else West), never South
10Jhadu under the bed, peeli sarson under the mattress or a desi cow dung lepan neutralise a wrong sleeping zone
11No mirror facing the bed and no beam, overhead tank, septic tank or electronics around it
12Stairs are Mercury: best in SSW, SW, South, West and NW; never in NE, Brahmasthan, North or facing the main door
13Stairs should turn clockwise with odd risers ending on Indra or Raj, landings and equal risers, and nothing harmful beneath
14No water scenes on S, W or SW walls, no mountains on the North wall, and no pictures with cut hands, feet or heads
Before construction, spread lime dissolved in water over the entire land below the flooring. Given as a brahmastra and one of the sanskars of land, it nullifies geopathic negative energy.
A continuous lamp of desi cow ghee in the agneya (SE) of the kitchen, lit in sagun, drives away negative energy and increases wealth; it is called the biggest brahmastra, worth more than all other interior work.
South-East (agneya kon) of the kitchen; it can also burn in a SE room or in a kitchen in the NW
A bell or ghanta made of ashtadhatu contains the metals of all nine planets, so ringing it spreads vibrations through the whole house and pacifies the planets.
Inside the house, where its sound reaches every room
Bricks stamped with a swastik create strong negative energy once laid in toilets or under the feet, because the sacred symbol is dishonoured. Where such bricks are already used, spray the brickwork with gomutra before plastering.
Steel reinforcement raises the electromagnetic current in modern buildings; a copper pyramid of a particular angle placed at the bottom of every column nullifies this negative energy.
Whatever zone the kitchen is in, move the burner to the South-East of that kitchen and set it so the cook faces East, or North if East is impossible. This is the best kitchen treatment and removes many doshas.
A closed kalash filled to the brim in sagun with turmeric knots, supari, yellow mustard and a sawa rupaya, kept in the kitchen's NE, ensures the kitchen never runs short however many guests arrive.
Use a bed without a storage box, keep the floor under it swept and keep peeli sarson under the mattress; the negativity picked up during the day drains away and bad dreams stop.
When troubles persist and the bed stands in a wrong zone such as SSW or WNW, plaster the floor under the bed with desi cow dung and sleep there; the teacher guarantees good results from ten years of trials.
Making the bedroom, bed, bedsheet and mattress all of seven aay keeps husband and wife together like a magnet, even when the horoscope shows a divorce yoga.
If stairs must be built in the North, leave some space from the North side and make them of wood, which also represents Mercury; a cement structure needs even more space left.
Filling soil should come only from fertile fields or mountains, never from polluted or inauspicious places, and should be taken after giving a coconut and asking permission of the place's devta.
Sagun means doing an act while holding the breath. A lamp lit in sagun burns many times longer on the same ghee, and a shankh blown in sagun with a wish in mind drives negative energy out of the house.
Stairs carry three currents linked with ida, pingala and sushumna, named Indra, Yama and Raj; count the steps in that repeating order so the last step falls on Indra or Raj, never on Yama.
Mixing a handful to about a kilo of a chosen soil into the flooring raises the energy for a purpose: cowshed, mountain or elephant-stable soil for peace, yellow soil for business, white or yellow soil for homes, and pilgrimage or river soil for temples.
Do not build a temple in the kitchen; keep a small Mangal kalash at the agneya kon with a small photo of your Guru or ishta, and draw a swastik in front of your eyes so the food cooked becomes like amrit.
Kitchen: kalash and photo at the SE; swastik at eye level in front of the cook
Stairs stand for business, intellect and wealth, so a strong, beautifully designed staircase with wood, glass, green leaves and flowers multiplies wealth, while shaky or broken stairs sink money.
Bricks and stones are male or female: when struck, one gives a khan sound and the other a jhan sound. Joining a male with a female, like plus with minus, makes them hold each other for ages.
The bedroom colour should combine the zone colour with the colour that awakens your fortune; without a horoscope, find that colour by browsing a full colour catalogue and noting the colours you instinctively like.
Interior work is done to change the mind, because everything follows from the mind. Pictures, colours and objects (chitra) change the state of mind (chitt), so the goal the mind should be led to must be fixed first.
Each direction is the seat of a planet with its own metal; keeping that metal in that direction captures and multiplies the planet's energy there and neutralises negative energy.
Only about 55 percent of the Sun's energy reaches the earth. Of that, trees and plants capture about 95 percent, mirrors 80, pyramids 65, water 60, yantras 60 to 90, metals 45 and stones 35, while plastic and petroleum by-products capture none.
Room decoration in general; plants are chosen by planet and direction
Planets act most strongly on particular objects: the Moon on white objects and liquids, the Sun and Mars on fire, light and electricity, Mars also on floors and land, Saturn on metal, dug land and machines, Jupiter on temples and the tijori, Venus on luxury objects and Mercury on TV, telephone and electronics.
Natural materials hold planetary energy while petroleum by-products hold none. Use fire-baked clay bricks, lime where possible, no more than two or three species of wood and black basalt road metal, and build walls in plumb with a honeycomb bond.
A picture changes the mind, so a painting can create a dosh. A painting of a tree, mountain, river, road or pillar facing the main door acts as a dwar vedh, water scenes do not belong on South, West or SW walls, and mountain scenes do not belong on the North wall.
Walls facing the main door; South, West, SW and North walls
Never hang photos or paintings in which hands, feet or heads are cut off. Hang family photos with smiling faces on the South wall, with the faces looking towards the North.
South wall; all photo frames with faces towards North
The kitchen is the most important part of the house because the food made there shapes the mind, thoughts and blood of everyone; its old name chauka means a place of four purities.
The kitchen is the fire element ruled by Mars. It is best in SE, then SSE, then West and NW; SW, NE and North are dangerous, and every other zone gives its own result.
When neither the planets nor the vastu support a person, doing every daily task by swar still brings success: not tithi, nakshatra, vaar or graha, but swar.
Grid the kitchen from its own centre and place items by zone: the refrigerator in SE, South, West or ideally NW, spices in the South, knives and cutlery in the SW, drinking water in NNE or ENE and the vegetable basket in the East.
Make the platform L-shaped or I-shaped, never U-shaped, and keep the burner on stone; ceramic tile is very good, synthetic quartz, marble and steel are acceptable, while laminate, wood and black stone are not.
Choose the platform colour by the kitchen's zone and use ivory with orange for the floor and ivory with pista green for the walls and cabinets; the correct platform colour alone removes about 25 percent of a wrongly placed kitchen's dosh.
Rules to avoid in kitchen design: no south-facing door, no doorless or open kitchen, no central platform, no mirrors or water artifacts, no toilet on any of its six sides and no well, borewell or tank above or below.
Vastu supports those whose karma is good; it is not everything. Its results depend on four controlling factors: dravya (substance), kshetra (place), kaal (time) and bhaav (intention).
Interior vastu grids every room from its own centre, in addition to the house grid, and places items by the room's own zones; in a kitchen the deciding point is where the fire burns.
The bedroom must be chosen with the person's horoscope in mind, not by one standard formula. South and WSW are excellent, WSW suits everyone, and every other zone gives results that depend on the planets.
A summary chart assigns sleeping zones by age: children, couples up to 45, adults from 45 to 60 and people above 60 each have their own suitable zones.
If the sleeping zone cannot be changed, changing the direction of the feet gives about 50 percent of the benefit. Feet towards North is best, West is second, East only for children and early risers, and South never.
Keep heavy furniture and cupboards in the South, West or SW of the bedroom, and avoid sleeping under beams or tanks, near electronics, facing mirrors or over clutter.
Stairs represent Mercury (Budh), the planet that lifts people up and gives success in business; they join underground energy with cosmic energy. Wrongly placed stairs stall business, obstruct children's education and spoil relations with sisters, daughters and paternal aunts.
Stairs are excellent in SSW (the heavier the better) and good to very good in South, SW, WSW, West, WNW and NW; they must never be in the NE zone, the Brahmasthan, the North or right in front of the main door.
Stairs must turn clockwise, have an odd number of risers, include landings and equal risers, arrive facing North or East, and have nothing harmful built beneath them.
Use wood for stairs in NNE, ENE and East; green Kota stone, pink marble, Lakha granite or vitrified glass tiles in ESE, SE and South; yellow or Dholpur stone in SSW and SW; and white stone or vitrified tiles in the West.
Stairs right in front of the main door invite accidents and mishaps, but stairs that start at least twice the door height away (14 feet for a 7 feet door) are not treated as facing the door.

Questions asked in this session
How long do the sun's rays take to reach the earth, and which materials capture the most of the planetary energy they bring?
The sun's rays take about 8 minutes 20 seconds to reach the earth, and only about 55% of their energy arrives; the other 45% is lost on the way. Of what arrives, trees and plants capture about 95%, mirrors 80%, yantras 60 to 90%, pyramids 65% (which is why fruit kept under a pyramid stays fresh), water 60% (mainly the Moon's energy), metals 45% and stones 35%. Plastic and other petroleum by-products capture none, so interiors should rely on natural materials and on indoor and outdoor plants chosen for the planet of each direction.
Why are the South-West walls made thick and the South-West kept high?
The South-West is the location of Rahu and Ketu, and the West belongs to Saturn. Thick, high walls keep the influence of Rahu-Ketu and Saturn from becoming excessive, which is why the South-West is never kept low.
Why should the bell in the house be made of ashtadhatu?
Ashtadhatu contains the metals that represent all nine planets, so an ashtadhatu bell pacifies the nine planets. Electric bells have replaced it today, but ringing an ashtadhatu bell sends its vibrations through the whole house.
Which planet and metal belong to each direction, and why place that metal there?
In Vedic vastu each direction represents a planet: East is the Sun (gold and copper), South-East is Venus (white metal), South is Mars (copper), South-West is Rahu-Ketu (panchdhatu), West is Saturn (iron), North-West is the Moon (silver), North is Mercury (kansa and brass) and North-East is Jupiter (gold and brass). The planets cannot be held in a fist, but their energy can be deposited in the home: the material representing a direction's planet captures that planet's energy there, multiplies it, raises the power of the place and nullifies negative energy.
No. The swastik and Om are the most sacred symbols, and a swastik generates about 10 lakh bovis of energy; when such bricks end up in toilets and floors, people walk and relieve themselves on it, and the same amount of negative energy is generated in the house, harming all work. In one case a family built a whole house of swastik bricks, and within three months of griha pravesh three members died in an accident and another later died of a heart attack. Recommend plain burnt clay bricks (fly ash bricks are not good either); where swastik bricks are already laid, spray gomutra (cow urine) on them before plastering.
How are male and female bricks identified, and why does it matter?
When struck, one brick gives a khan sound and the other a jhan sound: one is male and the other female, like plus and minus. Bricks and stones laid by joining male with female hold each other and never let go, which is why buildings 2,000 years old still stand as they are.
Why did old buildings joined with lime last for thousands of years?
Their mortar was lime (chuna) made by burning limestone, which formed hydrated calcium carbonate and captured the full energy, so many such buildings still stand after thousands of years. Cement replaced it, but its life is only about 75 years and no manufacturer guarantees it beyond 100 years. Lime also absorbs negativity, which is why whole houses were once whitewashed with it.
Not because they are mud: termites attack wood and cement walls as well. Termites come wherever negativity settles, and injecting mercury into the ground keeps them away. Mud is the strongest adhesive, and a room built with mud in place of cement mortar, especially in the North-East, holds the most energy and removes many North-East doshas.
Sagun is a swar vigyan technique that is learnt fully only in the complete swar training; in brief, the lamp is lit while holding the breath. A lamp lit in sagun burns far longer: a 100 g ghee lamp lit on Dussehra burned for 10 to 12 days and a 10 g lamp has burned for 27 days, so a desi cow ghee lamp in the South-East of the kitchen needs only 25 to 50 g of ghee a day. A conch blown in sagun while holding a wish drives all negative energy out of the house.
Chauka means the place of four kinds of purity: of mind, speech, body and food (man, vachan, kaya and aahar). The kitchen was the place where the one cooking kept all four pure; today hardly any of these purities remains.
The Sun's sweet morning rays carry an energy composition that mixes into the food and gives it taste, quality, minerals, vitamins and protein, so turning your back to the Sun while cooking is considered a great curse of the kitchen. Wherever the kitchen is, shift the burner to the South-East of the kitchen and make the cook face East; if East is not possible face North, but never face West.
A refrigerator is cold, so why can it be placed in the fire zone, and where should it go?
Cold is produced from heat and a refrigerator cannot run without fire, so it can be placed in the South-East of the kitchen. Using the kitchen's own grid, it can also go in the West, and the North-West is ideal according to astrology.
Why should the kitchen platform be L-shaped or straight (I-shaped) and not U-shaped?
The kitchen is fire, and a person standing at an L-shaped platform forms a triangle, the shape of fire. A U-shape forms the water element, a wavy, moon-like structure, and in homes with moon-like structures the health of women stays poor.
Why should the burner always rest on stone, whatever the platform is made of?
Fire lives with stone: deep below the earth's crust, in the mantle, the rocks are molten like fire. So wherever a platform is made, the part where the burner sits must be stone; laminate and wooden platforms are not good and stainless steel is only partly acceptable.
Why does the colour of the kitchen platform matter so much?
Eye contact is greatest with the platform, since rolling, chopping and all cooking work happen on it, so its colour works on the eyes and mind. In a wrongly placed kitchen the right platform colour alone can correct about 25% of the dosh: ivory for South, South-East, South-South-East and West-South-West kitchens; light red lakha granite for South-East and South-South-East, used sparingly because red stone comes only as granite, which develops pin holes; yellow for South-West and West; and green for South-East, South-South-East, South, North-East and North.
The South has the fire element, so why can't the kitchen be built there?
The South is the proper location of Mars and represents fire, but all the principles are based on the Sun. When the Sun is in the South its rays are so hot that the vitamins and minerals they carry are destroyed, and cooking there affects the cook's mind badly. Fire stays balanced up to the South-East, which is why the kitchen is made there; in the South the fire becomes imbalanced.
If there is a room in the South-East, can a lamp be lit there as well?
Yes, an akhand deep (continuously burning lamp) can be lit in a South-East room too. Agni Dev is pleased wherever an akhand deep burns and gives a great deal in return. It is not right, however, if women sleep in that room during their period of impurity (menstruation).
Yes, the platform can be painted, but the type of paint matters, which is explained in the topic of paints, pigments and colours. Never use oil-based paint.
Should black stone be used for the kitchen platform?
No. Black represents the water and space elements, and looking at black continuously weakens the eyesight. Tiny insects, bacteria and ants cannot be seen on black stone, so they get mixed into the food.
Won't a red platform in the South-East or South-South-East increase the fire element too much?
That is why perfect red is not used, only a light red such as lakha granite. Fire can be kept burning 24 hours in the South-East, so a red platform is acceptable there: the zone tolerates any amount of fire because the sun's rays in the South-East are not intense after 9 am, whereas hot winds (loo) come from the South.
What should be done if the kitchen is in the East?
There is no need to worry: an East kitchen is moderate. It suits early cooking, with the morning meal ready by about 9 to 9:30 am as in the kitchens of sadhus, so simply cook early.
Half of the kitchen is in the North-West and half in the West-North-West; where should the burner go?
Place the burner in the North-West part. A North-West kitchen is rated good, while a kitchen fire in the West-North-West brings differences between husband and wife.
Make the cabinets in the colours recommended for the kitchen walls and floor: ivory together with orange and pista green. A combination of these looks very beautiful.
What is the remedy if the kitchen door falls in the South?
A South door is called the door of Yama: demonic (rakshasi) tendencies enter through it, and at night they are said to make the food impure. Either close that door or energise it with the door power treatment taught later in the treatment classes. When designing, never give a kitchen a South-facing door, since fire into fire can cause a fire.
What should be done if the toilet and kitchen share a common wall?
Inject mercury into the ground along the base of the common wall; once mercury is in place no bacteria can travel across into the kitchen. Ideally a toilet should not be on any of the six sides of a kitchen: in front, behind, on either side, above or below.
What should be done if the kitchen is in the Brahmasthan?
Remove the kitchen from the Brahmasthan completely. A kitchen in the Brahmasthan causes division (vibhajan), as if the house were split in two. For the same reason the kitchen platform should not be made in the centre of the kitchen either.
Why is the popular red bulb in the South-East rejected?
A zero-watt red bulb has no strength to add fire: even if someone keeps it lit for a whole year, nothing warms up. Such formulas are baseless practices carried on in the name of vastu and should be thrown out; Geo Vastu exists to remove this kind of darkness.
White is often said to be bad, but bad results from it have not been seen in practice. White is allowed in every direction; it represents the water element, yet many very prosperous homes use it, such as the white kitchen platform in the Ambani home. This advice rests on case studies rather than copied literature, which is why black, not white, is the colour named to avoid.
If the Ambani kitchen uses white in the South-East, why should others use ivory?
In that horoscope the Moon is exalted and forms a strong Gaj Kesari yoga, so white does not harm them; you should use ivory. A white platform alone does not make anyone rich, nor does a platform alone make anyone a pauper: vastu is not everything and nothing is greater than karma. Vastu supports those whose karma is good, and its four controlling factors are dravya, kshetra, kaal and bhaav (substance, place, time and intention).
Which bedroom location suits everyone, whatever the strength of their planets?
The West-South-West: anyone can be given a bedroom there whether their planets are exalted or debilitated. The West suits those with an exalted or normal Saturn but not those with a debilitated Saturn, who should never sleep in the West-North-West either, as it can lead to depression.
Why should one not sleep with the feet towards the main door?
Energy keeps entering through the main door every moment, and at night spirits, devas and angels also move about and enter the house; if they find feet pointing at them they take it as disrespect, as if being kicked, and the sleeper suffers ill effects. The rule dates from when large families made some children sleep in the main door hall. For the same reason never point the feet towards the temple or God, a cow, religious books or the tijori where Lakshmi resides.
How can I choose the colour that awakens my fortune for my bedroom if I have no horoscope or cannot read it?
Take a colour catalogue and turn its pages with your own eyes: the colours you are drawn to are the ones that awaken your fortune. Use that colour along with the colour of the zone you sleep in, and if possible match it with your horoscope; it usually matches. Sleeping steadily for eight hours in that colour lets its planet act on the whole body.
What should be done if the TV is in front of the bed?
Cover the TV while sleeping, for example by putting a cloth or curtain over it. Electronic items should not be close around the bed in any case, as their electromagnetic currents make a person ill.
Nowhere: an aquarium is fancy vastu, not Vedic vastu. Keeping any creature captive is not right, and water kept impure for a long time disturbs the water element further; just as being shut in a 6 x 6 room for life with food provided would feel wrong, it is wrong to imprison living beings. An aquarium does not remove vastu dosh, it creates one, and no one's wealth has grown from keeping one.
No, building a temple in the kitchen is not right at all. Keep only a small kalash in the Agni kon (South-East) and a small photo of your guru there; that is not a temple. Guru (Jupiter) and Mars are friends, so the guru's grace supports the kitchen.
What should be done if the overhead tank is directly above the bed?
Paste a thin layer of muscovite (mica) on the ceiling, or give the room a wooden ceiling. Sleeping under an overhead tank generates hydro currents that raise the risk of heart problems.
Only three items: as many whole turmeric (haldi) knots as it can hold, supari (betel nut) and peeli sarson (yellow mustard), plus sava rupaya (1.25 rupees).
Stairs represent Mercury and Mercury lives in the North, so why should stairs not be built in the North?
Every structure represents a planet, the roof Rahu and the stairs Mercury, but a heavy staircase in the North suppresses the North and with it Mercury. Stairs in the North cause loss of career and of magnetic attraction and end opportunities, so they are not built there.
If stairs have to be built in the North out of compulsion, how should they be made?
Leave some space in the North and build the stairs of wood, since wood also represents Mercury and is light. If a cement structure is unavoidable, leave even more space. Never make them anticlockwise or spiral: anticlockwise and rounded stairs should not be built anywhere in the house.
What does the Marwari saying jiske sammukh hove naal, uske sar par hove kaal mean?
In Marwari the staircase is called naal, and the saying means that whoever has a staircase directly facing the main door has death hovering over the head, so mishaps keep happening. Marwaris decide where the naal will go even before the door when planning a house, because the stairs run the business. In one house with stairs right at the front main door, many children fell and were hurt, and there were accidents and even a suicide.
How should the number of stairs be counted, and how many should there be?
Count the risers: each time the foot rises to the next level (each tappa) is one stair. Keep the number odd, and since stairs carry three currents named Indra, Yama and Raj (like ida, pingala and sushumna, or plus, minus and neutral), count Indra, Yama, Raj in turn and make the last step fall on Raj or Indra, never on Yama, as the 8th would. Then the current reaches the upper floor positive.
If the stairs are in front of the main door but about 20 feet inside, is there still a dosh?
No. When the stairs are at least twice the door's height away, for example beyond 14 feet for a 7-foot door, they are not counted as facing the door and cause no dosh even if they are in front. Create some interior feature in between as well.
Is there any dosh if the house has no inside staircase, only an outside one?
Outside stairs are fine as long as their rules are followed: build nothing under stairs made outside the house, and in a South-facing house with the stairs in the South-West, never build anything under them.
Can red kota stone be used for stairs in the South-South-West?
It is better not to use red kota stone for stairs in the South-South-West. For South-South-West and South-West stairs use yellow stone or Dholpur stone, which balances that zone and multiplies its energy.
Are stairs made of mixed iron and plywood acceptable in the North?
Stairs should not be built in the North at all; if they must be, use wood. Many showrooms with wooden double-height staircases are found to do very well, because wood represents Mercury just as stairs and business do, so wooden stairs boost intelligence and keep business running.
Can just a bathroom or toilet be built under the stairs?
No, neither a bathroom nor a toilet should be built under the stairs. A toilet under the stairs creates hormonal problems and upsets the balance of the whole house.
What should be done if the stairs are anticlockwise?
There are three remedies; the first is to build a pyramid-shaped mumty (stair head-room) over the stairs. Anticlockwise stairs set the current, and the mind, turning the wrong way, and the pyramid mumty turns that current positive.
Cover the space with plywood and store unused things there, such as clothes and mattresses. A toilet, generator or bed should never be placed under the stairs.
