Can an inverter be kept in the South-West?
Can a septic tank be made in the South-South-East?

No. A septic tank cannot be made there; digging is prohibited from the SSE onward.

Does being manglik stop a person from sleeping in the South-West?

Manglik has nothing to do with it. It is considered only at marriage matching, when Mars sits in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 12th house, and Mars is power, not inauspicious. For the SW check whether Rahu-Ketu are debilitated, and for the South whether Mars is bad.

When door effects are given for each zone, do they mean the main door or room doors?

They refer to the main door of the house, not ordinary internal doors.

Where can a wine bar or meat be kept in the house?

No place is selected for wine, a bar or meat. In a house where any living being is killed or eaten vastu does not work, so the family is first asked to give these up before a vastu visit.

Why is a bathroom allowed in the East-South-East?

Basically the ESE is for a septic tank or any underground waste activity. A toilet there is only for an emergency, with the seat facing South; a seat facing East makes it like a North-East toilet.

Can the AC compressor be placed in the South-East?

It can be kept in the SE, but that is not its ideal zone; the ideal zone for an AC compressor is the North-West.

Can family photos or a Hanuman ji picture be placed in the South-South-East?

Yes. Family photos can go in the SSE with the faces in the photo turned toward North, and a Hanuman ji picture can also go there, facing South.

Why can a kitchen be made in the West?

Just as a kitchen can sometimes be in the East, it can be in the West: when Varun devta rains he also throws sparks of fire and lightning, so fire is not foreign to the West.

How long do the sun's rays take to reach the earth, and which materials capture the most of the planetary energy they bring?

The sun's rays take about 8 minutes 20 seconds to reach the earth, and only about 55% of their energy arrives; the other 45% is lost on the way. Of what arrives, trees and plants capture about 95%, mirrors 80%, yantras 60 to 90%, pyramids 65% (which is why fruit kept under a pyramid stays fresh), water 60% (mainly the Moon's energy), metals 45% and stones 35%. Plastic and other petroleum by-products capture none, so interiors should rely on natural materials and on indoor and outdoor plants chosen for the planet of each direction.

Why are the South-West walls made thick and the South-West kept high?

The South-West is the location of Rahu and Ketu, and the West belongs to Saturn. Thick, high walls keep the influence of Rahu-Ketu and Saturn from becoming excessive, which is why the South-West is never kept low.

Why should the bell in the house be made of ashtadhatu?

Ashtadhatu contains the metals that represent all nine planets, so an ashtadhatu bell pacifies the nine planets. Electric bells have replaced it today, but ringing an ashtadhatu bell sends its vibrations through the whole house.

Which planet and metal belong to each direction, and why place that metal there?

In Vedic vastu each direction represents a planet: East is the Sun (gold and copper), South-East is Venus (white metal), South is Mars (copper), South-West is Rahu-Ketu (panchdhatu), West is Saturn (iron), North-West is the Moon (silver), North is Mercury (kansa and brass) and North-East is Jupiter (gold and brass). The planets cannot be held in a fist, but their energy can be deposited in the home: the material representing a direction's planet captures that planet's energy there, multiplies it, raises the power of the place and nullifies negative energy.

Is it right to use bricks stamped with a swastik?

No. The swastik and Om are the most sacred symbols, and a swastik generates about 10 lakh bovis of energy; when such bricks end up in toilets and floors, people walk and relieve themselves on it, and the same amount of negative energy is generated in the house, harming all work. In one case a family built a whole house of swastik bricks, and within three months of griha pravesh three members died in an accident and another later died of a heart attack. Recommend plain burnt clay bricks (fly ash bricks are not good either); where swastik bricks are already laid, spray gomutra (cow urine) on them before plastering.

How are male and female bricks identified, and why does it matter?

When struck, one brick gives a khan sound and the other a jhan sound: one is male and the other female, like plus and minus. Bricks and stones laid by joining male with female hold each other and never let go, which is why buildings 2,000 years old still stand as they are.

Why did old buildings joined with lime last for thousands of years?

Their mortar was lime (chuna) made by burning limestone, which formed hydrated calcium carbonate and captured the full energy, so many such buildings still stand after thousands of years. Cement replaced it, but its life is only about 75 years and no manufacturer guarantees it beyond 100 years. Lime also absorbs negativity, which is why whole houses were once whitewashed with it.

Don't termites attack mud walls?

Not because they are mud: termites attack wood and cement walls as well. Termites come wherever negativity settles, and injecting mercury into the ground keeps them away. Mud is the strongest adhesive, and a room built with mud in place of cement mortar, especially in the North-East, holds the most energy and removes many North-East doshas.

What does lighting a lamp in sagun mean?

Sagun is a swar vigyan technique that is learnt fully only in the complete swar training; in brief, the lamp is lit while holding the breath. A lamp lit in sagun burns far longer: a 100 g ghee lamp lit on Dussehra burned for 10 to 12 days and a 10 g lamp has burned for 27 days, so a desi cow ghee lamp in the South-East of the kitchen needs only 25 to 50 g of ghee a day. A conch blown in sagun while holding a wish drives all negative energy out of the house.

Why was the kitchen traditionally called chauka?

Chauka means the place of four kinds of purity: of mind, speech, body and food (man, vachan, kaya and aahar). The kitchen was the place where the one cooking kept all four pure; today hardly any of these purities remains.

Why should one face only East while cooking?

The Sun's sweet morning rays carry an energy composition that mixes into the food and gives it taste, quality, minerals, vitamins and protein, so turning your back to the Sun while cooking is considered a great curse of the kitchen. Wherever the kitchen is, shift the burner to the South-East of the kitchen and make the cook face East; if East is not possible face North, but never face West.

A refrigerator is cold, so why can it be placed in the fire zone, and where should it go?

Cold is produced from heat and a refrigerator cannot run without fire, so it can be placed in the South-East of the kitchen. Using the kitchen's own grid, it can also go in the West, and the North-West is ideal according to astrology.

Why should the kitchen platform be L-shaped or straight (I-shaped) and not U-shaped?

The kitchen is fire, and a person standing at an L-shaped platform forms a triangle, the shape of fire. A U-shape forms the water element, a wavy, moon-like structure, and in homes with moon-like structures the health of women stays poor.

Why should the burner always rest on stone, whatever the platform is made of?

Fire lives with stone: deep below the earth's crust, in the mantle, the rocks are molten like fire. So wherever a platform is made, the part where the burner sits must be stone; laminate and wooden platforms are not good and stainless steel is only partly acceptable.

Why does the colour of the kitchen platform matter so much?

Eye contact is greatest with the platform, since rolling, chopping and all cooking work happen on it, so its colour works on the eyes and mind. In a wrongly placed kitchen the right platform colour alone can correct about 25% of the dosh: ivory for South, South-East, South-South-East and West-South-West kitchens; light red lakha granite for South-East and South-South-East, used sparingly because red stone comes only as granite, which develops pin holes; yellow for South-West and West; and green for South-East, South-South-East, South, North-East and North.

The South has the fire element, so why can't the kitchen be built there?

The South is the proper location of Mars and represents fire, but all the principles are based on the Sun. When the Sun is in the South its rays are so hot that the vitamins and minerals they carry are destroyed, and cooking there affects the cook's mind badly. Fire stays balanced up to the South-East, which is why the kitchen is made there; in the South the fire becomes imbalanced.
