45 Vastu Devtas of the 81-Pada Grid: Mapping Method, Shikhi and Parjanya
Introduces the 45 Vastu Devtas as the named energies of a plot, from the story of the Vastu Purush to the 81-pada grid used for homes and businesses (64-pada for temples, villages and cities). Teaches a quick manual method to divide any plan into brahma, dev-manushya and pishach bhoomi with the 0.33, 0.55 and 0.77 multipliers, and to mark the 32 outer pads at 11.25 degrees and the inner pads with an 18-54-18 split. Stresses that the devtas are best established at garbh vinyas or shilanyas, with bhog served at their own pads. Then covers Shikhi (E1) and Parjanya (E2) in depth: nature, what they govern, samagri, room rules, defect signs, activation tests, mantras and remedies.
1The 45 Vastu Devtas are the named energies of a plot; 81-pada vastu is used for homes and businesses, 64-pada for temples, villages, palaces and cities
2Divide any plan into brahma, dev-manushya and pishach bhoomi by multiplying the centre-to-corner distance by 0.33, 0.55 and 0.77
3The 32 outer devtas each span 11.25 degrees with Som devta centred on North; the inner devtas use an 18-54-18 degree split per direction
4Devtas give the strongest results when worshipped and established at garbh vinyas or shilanyas; later remedies activate them only partly
5Each outer devta has a 45-minute period; Shikhi ends at 3:00 am and Parjanya runs from 3:00 to 3:45 am
6Shikhi (E1) is a highly sensitive yogi governing vision, foresight and decisions; a mor pankh swastik there is the brahmastra
7No main door, kitchen or toilet at Shikhi; drawing room, puja room, underground tank and borewell suit it
8Parjanya (E2) is the cloud and rain devta of productivity and fertility; a coconut on a water-filled clay kalash activates it
9Bury crystal quartz only five angul deep at Parjanya; a white gandharva nagar cloud picture frees stuck work and production
10Activation tests: ghee fragrance, diya burning time and wheat jaware for Shikhi; chandan fragrance and peeli sarson sparks for Parjanya
11Serve bhog in a leaf dona or on a paan leaf at the devta pad, as one serves a guest
A swastik made of peacock feathers at the Shikhi pad keeps this devta active 24 hours a day, all year and for life, without elaborate rituals. The teacher called it the biggest brahmastra and remedy for Shikhi.
When work has slowed or stopped, the mind is blocked or orders have dried up, drill the relevant one-eighth part of the Shikhi pad with a core cutter and fill it with crystal; energy builds up very fast.
A small desi cow ghee diya and above all a bhimseni kapoor lamp, the fragrance Shikhi likes most, correct a cut, raised, dirty, uneven or toilet-affected Shikhi pad and a blocked mind.
Shikhi is itself a guru, so a picture of a great guru such as Adi Brahma or Adinath, their disciples, your own guru, a sadhu or a yogi, or their teachings written in a granth, kept at this pad balances it.
A silver Om with a swastik on the floor of the Shikhi pad spreads the energy of Om through the house; Om stands for Jupiter and silver for the Moon, the two planets of this devta.
Floor of the Shikhi pad, E1; also the Parjanya pad, E2, when the main door is there
An amla tree planted at the Shikhi pad in the boundary area, an amla plant in a pot, or simply amla fruit kept there lets the devta absorb cosmic energy and keeps the pad full of energy.
Shikhi pad, E1, in the boundary (pishach bhoomi) area
A water kalash with five mango leaves and a coconut, set on a cow-dung-plastered spot with rangoli at the Shikhi pad, with white mustard, yellow mustard or pukhraj added by need, makes the yogi Shikhi fulfil the wishes of the residents.
Burying crystal quartz points or slices at the Parjanya pad exactly five angul below the surface, touching the soil, restores production and removes obstacles in work.
A coconut set on a small water-filled clay kalash at the Parjanya pad, with the water poured into tulsi and refilled daily, activates Parjanya; when the coconut sprouts, the devta is awake.
Parjanya pad, E2; it can also stand outside a door that falls at E2
A picture of bright white gandharva nagar clouds, cloud formations that look like palaces, hung at the Parjanya pad fulfils plans and wishes and treats a dosh at E2 without other changes.
A daily havan of makhana (kamal gatta) with desi cow ghee at the Parjanya pad, begun on one's own nakshatra day and continued for 45 days, develops fertility in couples who cannot conceive.
A garland of makhana strung on thread and a picture of a cow suckling its calf, kept at the Parjanya pad, treat poor production and poor results in education.
A small turmeric plant, or better a daru haldi plant, kept in a pot at the Parjanya pad captures the sun's energy and releases it all day, bringing riddhi, siddhi, prosperity and happiness.
A quick manual method to divide any plan into the concentric bhoomis of the 81-pada grid by multiplying the centre-to-corner distance by 0.33, 0.55 and 0.77.
After the bhoomi rings are drawn, the outer ring is cut into 32 pads of 11.25 degrees each, starting with Som devta centred on North, and the middle ring into 12 inner pads with an 18-54-18 degree split for each direction.
Bhog must be served to each devta at its own pad, in a dona made of leaves or on a paan leaf, with a request to accept it, just as food is served to a guest. Items merely lying in the house are not an offering.
A small havan at the Shikhi pad with a teaspoon of desi cow ghee mixed with a spoon of shali dhan, offered as nine aahutis with the devta's mantra, multiplies the energy of Shikhi.
Each of the 32 outer devtas holds a 45-minute period of sadhana, so together they complete the 24 hours. Havan, offerings and jaap done in a devta's own period wake and activate it quickly.
Three simple tests show whether Shikhi devta is awake: how far the ghee fragrance spreads after a small havan, how long a ghee diya burns at the pad, and how tall wheat jaware grow there in seven days.
The state of Parjanya is read from how far a dab of original chandan spreads its fragrance, whether yellow mustard burnt at the pad throws sparks at you, and how well the plants of the house grow.
During Shiva's battle with Andhakasura a drop of his sweat produced a starving mahabhoot; devas and asuras laid him face down and 45 devtas sat on him, creating 45 places with separate functions on every plot. Brahma made him his manas putra and promised that whoever occupies land would remember and feed him.
Both grids hold the same 45 vastu devtas, but the 81-pada mandala is used for homes and business premises while the 64-pada mandala is used for temples, villages, palaces (raj mandir), towns and city gates.
Homes and businesses (81 pada); temples, villages, palaces, towns and city gates (64 pada)
The biggest pooja, havan and sthapana of the 45 devtas should be done at garbh vinyas or shilanyas, while the devtas are on open ground and can receive their samagri at their own pads; the building is then raised over them.
In earlier times, after garbh vinyas and the plinth beam, builders left the work for a season of about three months so that the sun, moon, 27 nakshatras and 9 planets could fully act on the newly acquired and worshipped land.
A home cannot keep all 45 devta pads empty. Wooden furniture placed on any devta's pad, even on its most vital point (ati marma), is not considered a dosh; the vedic rule is to protect the ashtamansh, the sensitive one-eighth part of the pad.
When only part of a plot is built and land is left open around it, the 45 devtas are allocated on the whole plot from its centre. The open land becomes a large pishach bhoomi where the 32 outer devtas spread out happily, and the inner devtas get cross ventilation from all sides.
Drawing room, office, puja room, conference room, underground water tank, borewell and a bedroom for elders suit the Shikhi pad. A main door, kitchen or toilet here harms the residents.
A doctor's chamber is the best use of the Parjanya pad, and a conference room, a bedroom for peace and deep sleep, or a bath (yog snan) also suit it. A toilet or a main door here causes delays and female dominance.
Chanting the Shikhi devta mantra at its pad, facing East on a silver or gold mala in the devta's pre-dawn period, clears a blocked mind and brings vision and ideas. With aahuti the mantra ends in swaha.
Chanting the Parjanya devta mantra on a silver or gold mala, facing East between 3:00 and 3:45 am, raises productivity and balances the energy of the pad.
Shikhi, also called Shiva, is the first outer devta of the pishach bhoomi, at E1 near the North-East corner. A mahayogi and a highly sensitive maha-dowser, its pad reacts at once to anything done there; it governs vision, foresight and decisions.
E1 pad, 39.375 to 50.625 degrees from North, outer pishach bhoomi at the North-East corner
Parjanya, the cloud and rain devta (megh, badal) at E2 next to Shikhi, brings rain, productivity and fertility and fulfils plans and wishes like a kalpavriksha. It is the doctor of crops, people and animals.
E2 pad, 50.625 to 61.875 degrees from North, outer pishach bhoomi (North-East into East-North-East)
Gandharva nagar are clouds that form shapes like cities and palaces; Parjanya devta is contained in them, and their colour and form foretell what is coming for the world.

Questions asked in this session
Does the relationship with the Vastu Devtas end once the vastu pooja is done at the start of construction?
No. A farmer who sows a seed does not end his bond with it there: he protects, waters and nurtures it until it flowers, fruits and grows into a shady tree, even a kalpavriksha (wish-fulfilling tree). In the same way, Indian architecture holds that a structure of stone and lime is not lifeless; prana settles into the building and its soil and controls the feelings of the people who live there, so the devtas established in the land must keep being nurtured.
How did the Vastu Purush and the 45 Vastu Devtas originate?
In the Matsya Purana account, a drop of sweat fell from Shiva during his battle with the demon Andhaka and a great being (mahabhoot) arose, so hungry that it could devour the three worlds. On Brahma's order the devtas and asuras pinned it face down and 45 devtas sat on its body. Brahma granted that it would be remembered and given food and water whenever anyone occupies land, and that if it was not fed it could open its third eye and create havoc; he accepted it as his manas putra (mind-born son). The 45 places where the devtas sat became the 45 pads, each with its own function, like the separate work of the eyes, ears, nose and hands; medical science too speaks of 45 departments of the body.
What is the scientific basis behind the Vastu Devtas?
As the sun rises in the East and crosses the sky, and the moon adds its influence, the rays reach each part of the land at particular angles (1 degree, 5.625 degrees, 11.25 degrees) and keep changing the composition and chemistry of each spot. The sun, the moon, the 27 nakshatras and the 9 planets project their energies at particular angles of inclination and transform the soil, which is why the same land has given crops for thousands of years. Every particle has its own energy and chemistry that cannot be destroyed, only transformed; people who trusted religion more than science named these energies devtas.
Why did builders in earlier times leave the plinth for one season after the garbh vinyas?
After the digging and the garbh vinyas, the plinth beam was raised and then left for one season, about three months. The secret was to let the sun, the moon, the 27 nakshatras and the 9 planets fully work on the land whose devtas had been worshipped, so that the soil became charged and energised before building went on.
Which pada grid is used for homes and businesses, and which for temples and towns?
Both the 81-pada and the 64-pada grids carry the 45 devtas. The 81-pada vastu is used for homes and business premises, while the 64-pada vastu is used for temples, villages, royal palaces (raj mandir) and towns, including a town gate. This course teaches the 45 devtas on the 81-pada grid.
When do the Vastu Devtas have the greatest effect, and when should they be established?
Students answered griha pravesh and bhoomi poojan, which is only partly right: the greatest effect comes at the garbh vinyas or shilanyas, the day the land is taken over and the foundation is laid. Then the pishach, manushya, dev and brahma bhoomi are marked, the vastu pooja is done and every devta, 32 in the pishach bhoomi and the rest inside, is worshipped at its own place with its samagri, following the vidhi. A child cannot be born without a seed in the womb, and food works only through the mouth, not the ear or nose, so the biggest pooja, havan and sthapana belong to that day; building over the devtas afterwards is like tethering a cow first and then building its shed. Done later, remedies bring back only about 35% of that role, though even 5% is a lot.
Do the Vastu Devtas reside in the sky or on the ground?
On the ground. That is why they should be established at the shilanyas itself, and their bhog samagri is offered on the ground at each devta's own place.
Why are the Vastu Devtas needed, and what is their use?
Every place, down to a tiny particle, has its own chemistry created by the sun, the moon and the planets, and work done in line with that chemistry goes very well, just as a chemistry formula needs its ingredients in a fixed ratio. Land is the biggest source of energy, whether it is called a devta or energy; activating the devta of a particular location and using it for its own type of work brings success in education, spirituality, business, politics and every other field. Energy works only when it is taken in, as dry fruits kept at home give energy only when eaten, so the devtas have to be activated.
Why is there no line between manushya bhoomi and dev bhoomi on the 81-pada devta map?
In today's 81-pada vastu the manushya and dev bhoomi are combined, so only three divisions remain: the pishach bhoomi with the 32 outer devtas, the combined manushya-dev bhoomi with 12 devtas, and the brahma bhoomi with Brahma. After dividing the plan with the 0.33, 0.55 and 0.77 multipliers, erase the middle line between manushya and dev bhoomi, since it is not needed for placing the devtas.
Why does each outer devta cover 11.25 degrees, and how are the pads marked?
The 32 devtas of the pishach bhoomi share the full 360 degrees, and 360 divided by 32 is 11.25. Mark North with the plot's actual tilt (for example 5 degrees), place Som devta centred on North with 5.625 degrees on each side, then mark every further 11.25 degrees with a protractor or a zoning chakra and draw those lines only in the outer ring. The 12 inner devtas follow an 18-54-18 degree split in each direction (27 degrees on each side of the direction line for the middle one), and Brahma sits in the centre.
How long is each Vastu Devta's time period, and when are Shikhi and Parjanya active?
Each outer devta has a sadhana period of 45 minutes, so the 32 outer devtas complete the 24 hours (32 x 45 minutes) and come back to the same point. Shikhi's period runs up to 3:00 am and Parjanya's from 3:00 to 3:45 am. Havan and offerings made in a devta's own period wake and activate it quickly.
Why is Shikhi called the most sensitive devta, a maha-dowser?
Shikhi, the first devta and as important as Brahma, is so highly sensitive that anything done at its place gets an immediate reaction. Sensitive people become dowsers, but Shikhi is a maha-dowser. Among its many names it is called Shiva, and disturbing it is compared to Shiva's third eye opening, which shakes the universe.
Why does daylight begin about 48 minutes before sunrise, and why is Shikhi called a yogi?
The sun does sadhana through the whole night and, before rising, first projects that energy onto E1 (Shikhi); so although sunrise is at 6:00, light begins at about 5:12. Because this yogi energy falls there first, the land becomes yog bhoomi and Shikhi is called a mahayogi. A place where a yogi's energy falls must be kept clean and clear.
What happens when the Shikhi (E1) zone is cut, raised, dirty or uneven?
Shiva's third eye opens, meaning upheaval. The mind gets blocked, with no vision, ideas, routine or purpose in business, studies or life, and there can be fire, accidents, anger and brain problems, with migraine, vertigo and weak eyesight. Fungus or dampness at Shikhi keeps illness in the house. Kept clean and balanced, the zone makes residents far-sighted, high-thinking, quick in decisions, calm and steady in mind, and gives them forewarning of coming events.
Can a bedroom be made at Shikhi (E1), and why should it be white rather than red?
Yes, a bedroom at Shikhi can suit elderly people, and it should be painted white rather than the zone's red colour, as advised for people of kapha nature and for those of pitta nature whose heat rises quickly. Shikhi is highly sensitive and already hot, so red would add heat and open the third eye.
Why should a house door, kitchen or toilet not be built at Shikhi (E1), and which doors are allowed there?
Shikhi sits there and the spot holds heat and fire, so a house door at E1 can cause fire incidents and accidents. A boundary-wall gate is allowed, being in the pishach bhoomi, and so is the door of a temple or other religious building, a school or a college, because such buildings represent Jupiter and become the yogi's own home. A kitchen at Shikhi keeps health poor and brings memory loss, money problems, anger, indecision and a blocked mind, and a toilet there in the North-East stops vansh vriddhi (growth of the family line).
Why do an underground water tank, drawing room, puja room and conference room suit Shikhi (E1)?
When Adi Prabhu (Shiva) did sadhana on Kailash, the friction produced heat that began to melt the mountain, so water matters most for cooling this place; Shikhi's energy stored with water also spreads through the house and keeps removing about 50% of its vastu doshas. In the drawing room the family sits as if in sadhana and makes its plans and policies, and in a conference room others are convinced with one's ideas and vision and given targets. Worship of Adi Prabhu (Shiva) in a puja room here raises the energy further; an office and a borewell also suit this pad.
Why do women worship the amla tree, and how does amla help Shikhi?
The amla tree represents Shikhi devta: in summer, on the day of Shikhi devta, women go to worship the amla tree, and that is really the worship of Shikhi. So an amla tree planted at Shikhi in the boundary area (pishach bhoomi), an amla in a pot, or even amla fruit kept there keeps the zone full of energy. A potted amla was also advised in the doubt session, since trees extend energy at right angles, as taught in vriksh vastu.
Shikhi lies in the pishach bhoomi, so where should one sit for its jaap?
One cannot sit in the pishach bhoomi itself. Sit facing East in padmasan or sukhasan, project your vision to the devta's place as if through a telescope and visualise it, and chant the Shikhi mantra on a silver or gold mala, as many rounds as possible, in the period up to 3:00 am; with aahuti the mantra ends in swaha. It helps when the mind is blocked, business ideas do not come or children cannot memorise. Exact words: refer to the class recording.
How can one tell whether Shikhi devta is activated?
Three tests. Offer nine aahuti of half a spoon of desi cow ghee with half a spoon of rice over burning Bhimseni kapoor: if the ghee fragrance spreads through the whole house up to the pishach bhoomi, the devta is active. A ghee diya at the spot that burns longer than the same ghee lasts elsewhere also shows activation. Sow wheat in soil in a leaf dona, as in Navratri: jaware about 11 inches long in seven days mean full activation, about 7 inches mean moderate, and then the activation methods should be done.
Can a Vastu Devta already be active without any remedy?
Yes. Sometimes the devtas are active on their own because of one's punya and good karma of past lives; they are like old friends who wake up again when one comes to live on that land. They also become active when one moves in with the permission of the people already living there. The activation tests show whether they are active.
If many things are already kept at a devta's place, does that count as an offering?
No, goods lying there are not arpan or samarpan. A guest never picks sweets off the dining table himself; they are served on his plate and he is invited to start. In the same way, serve the devta its bhog in a leaf dona or on a paan leaf, which the devtas love, and request it to accept the offering and increase the energy of the place. If the pooja was not done during construction, offer it at griha pravesh: any dish made in desi cow ghee, such as gujiya.
What is a gandharva nagar, and what do cloud formations indicate?
Gandharva nagar are clouds that take the shape of towns and palaces in the sky; they belong to Parjanya, the cloud devta, and are also a subject of ashtang nimitta. Dark gandharva nagar warn that a calamity or a terrible disease is coming; such formations were seen about four months before Corona. Bright, clean white clouds point to good rain, growth of wealth and grain, rising dharma and a happy, prosperous people. Market rises and falls, crops and diseases are read from about 50 types of gandharva nagar.
How can one test whether Parjanya devta is imbalanced, for example when factory machines keep breaking down?
Burn a little peeli sarson at Parjanya's place: if it bursts out in sharp sparks that touch the body, Parjanya is upset or imbalanced, which is why the machines there break down and do not give production. If the trees of the house do not reach their proper height or bear good fruit, Parjanya is displeased. Parjanya is active when a little original chandan applied there spreads its fragrance through the whole house and the residents' wishes come true.
Why should crystal quartz be buried only five angul deep at Parjanya?
Parjanya works like a seed in soil: a seed sown too deep gives no crop, which is why farmers sow only three to five angul (about 5 to 6 inches) deep. Quartz points placed five angul (of the house owner) down, touching the soil, give production and remove obstacles in work; buried deeper, Parjanya gives no result. Many people bury items without results because they do not know the right method and its reason.
Why is a doctor's chamber the best use of Parjanya (E2)?
No doctor is bigger than Parjanya: it is the doctor of crops, of humans and of animals, giving them productivity and the power of generation. So a doctor's chamber is the most important orientation at E2, and a conference room also suits it.
Why does an imbalanced Parjanya cause liver problems?
When rain is excessive or fails, production suffers and insects attack the crop, and eating such infested grain damages the liver. So an imbalanced Parjanya damages the liver of the residents; its right bhog is sprouted moong or sprouted salad.
Parjanya is the devta of fertility, so why is married life said to be not allowed in a bedroom at E2?
A bedroom at Parjanya was never forbidden; it gives peace and deep sleep. What does not suit it is going there only for pleasure. When a couple goes there with the intention of having a child, following the method of establishing a kalash and keeping a diya, and conceives there, they give birth to the best child.
The house door falls on Parjanya (E2) and the family has more girls; why, and what can be done?
A door at Parjanya makes the house female dominated: females are more in number, more female calves are born and the first child is often a daughter, though this also depends on the fifth house of the horoscope. The remedy is to make the Om and swastik symbol taught for Shikhi at that door.
How do we know whether Shikhi or Parjanya is deactivated?
Use the same tests taught for activation. If the devta is deactivated, no fragrance spreads (desi ghee for Shikhi, chandan for Parjanya) and no sprouting happens (the wheat jaware for Shikhi, the coconut on the kalash for Parjanya).
If there is a cut at E2 (Parjanya), can it be corrected with a symbol?
Parjanya, the devta that brings rain, production and everything else, works like a lens that captures the sun's rays; when it is balanced, it captures the cosmic energy fully. To balance a cut there, the one remedy given is the plant taught for Parjanya: a haldi or daru haldi plant in a pot.
When the house stands at the back of the plot with a garden in front, which centre is used to map the devtas?
Take the centre of the whole plot and map the devtas on it; all the open land around the house, even outside the building, becomes space for the devtas. This is why big houses abroad, as in America, are so balanced: about 4,000 sq ft is built on about 40,000 sq ft of land, so the 32 outer devtas get a huge, open pishach bhoomi and the manushya and dev bhoomi get cross ventilation from all sides. Just as a person given two acres of land enjoys the space, the devtas are pleased by big open land.
If only part of a plot is to be built, where are the devtas marked?
If construction covers only part of the plot with space left all around, the 45 devtas are allocated on the whole plot and their places are selected on it.
If the built-up area is on one side, such as South and West, with the other sides open, how are the pishach bhoomi and devtas found?
Use the angular method taught in class. Whatever the tilt and whatever the shape, octagonal, pentagonal or regular, find the centre, divide the plan into pishach, manushya-dev and brahma bhoomi and mark the pads by degrees as demonstrated, then practise it from the recording.
In which direction exactly should the picture for Shikhi or Parjanya be put?
A devta does not own one wall; it is an 11.25-degree sector. Shikhi and Parjanya face East, so put the picture within that sector, facing East; when a student asked, West-facing was also accepted.
Can remedies done after construction fully activate the 45 devtas?
No. A lot of misleading talk goes around about the 45 devtas. The maximum remedy has to be done when the land is prepared and built on; the other remedies taught for later cannot activate a devta 100% and bring it only to about 30 to 35%.
If furniture made by carpenters is placed on a devta's pad, does it affect the devta?
All 45 devta places cannot be left empty, or there would be nowhere to live or keep things in a house or flat. The Vedic texts say to protect the ashtamansh (one-eighth part of the pad); wooden items kept on any devta's place, even on a marma, are not counted as a dosh, because wood does not sink in water but floats. Besides, the devta's place lies beneath us, and the devta is basically a particular energy.
Does the coconut kalash for Parjanya work when kept outside a door at E2?
Yes. In a flat seen on a recent visit, whose door is exactly at E2 (Parjanya), the resident keeps a water-filled kalash with a coconut on it outside the door and changes the water daily; the coconut has grown into a large plant, and the resident reported very good results for ten years without needing any planetary remedies. This is exactly the remedy prescribed for Parjanya.
Who benefits most from the white gandharva nagar cloud picture at Parjanya?
Especially people whose wishes are not coming true or whose production is not happening. A shining white gandharva nagar picture at Parjanya fulfils wishes like a kalpavriksha, completes stuck work, brings back stuck money, helps sell a property that is not selling, builds market image and gets goods and machine production moving.
In which month are Shikhi and Parjanya devtas awake?
Every devta has its own month; Shikhi and Parjanya stay awake in Shravan (Sawan). The coconut kalash can still be placed at Parjanya after Shravan has passed; once Parjanya is awake it fulfils the wishes of the residents, so that in such a house whoever enters and voices a wish sees it fulfilled.
