A wall that leans even slightly unbalances the gravitational force in the room; the person who sleeps there stays ill and troubled, has bad dreams and does not sleep well.
A bed that is not level leaves the sleeper with bad dreams (duswapna) and frequent illness, because the gravitational force does not act correctly on it.
The human body has its own poles, with the head as its north pole and the feet as its south pole. With the head to the South, the poles of body and earth lie opposite and attract; with like poles together they repel, and sleep does not come.
The North-East is ruled by Isha, its planet is Jupiter (Guru), the greatest of the planets, its gem is yellow sapphire (pukhraj), its symbol is the kalash and its vehicle the horse; in the Vastu Purush it is the head and brain. It gives true knowledge, prosperity and peace.
The South belongs to Yama, the god of justice and messenger of death, who rides a buffalo and holds a danda (rod). Its planet is Mars (Mangal) and its stone is moonga (coral); it is the zone of complete relaxation and sleep and rules the world of departed ancestors.
Palaces and old houses had an open-to-sky courtyard at the centre, which kept the mind clear; when the courtyard disappeared, that clarity went too. If the centre cannot be open to the sky on every floor, a double height at the Brahmasthan still balances the space element.
The water element is wavy or moon-shaped, white, located from North to North-East, liquid by nature and ruled by the Moon and Venus. Borings, wells, underground tanks, basins and other water sources represent it; balanced it brings joy, peace, confidence and wealth, imbalanced it brings irritation, disease and loss of money.
Magnetic field lines run from North to South, so the magnetic effect is strongest and most stabilising in the South, which makes it the zone for rest and sleep. Deep sleep makes the day go well, earns respect and increases name and work.
A doctor's chamber is the best use of the Parjanya pad, and a conference room, a bedroom for peace and deep sleep, or a bath (yog snan) also suit it. A toilet or a main door here causes delays and female dominance.
The puja room is made in the Ishaan (North-East) because it is Jupiter's location; its energy calms the mind, builds concentration and turns it to devotion.
A bedroom zone is chosen by the occupant's planets: an exalted planet makes its zone favourable and a debilitated one makes it harmful. Key checks are Sun for East, Venus for SE, Mars for South, Rahu-Ketu for SW, Saturn for West, Moon for NW, Mercury for North and Jupiter for NE.
South belongs to Yam Maharaj, who gives rest, relaxation, name and fame; it is the ideal location for the bedroom. The South must be raised, closed and heavy so that the fierce fire energy arriving there is blocked.
The bedroom must be chosen with the person's horoscope in mind, not by one standard formula. South and WSW are excellent, WSW suits everyone, and every other zone gives results that depend on the planets.
Keep heavy furniture and cupboards in the South, West or SW of the bedroom, and avoid sleeping under beams or tanks, near electronics, facing mirrors or over clutter.
A summary chart assigns sleeping zones by age: children, couples up to 45, adults from 45 to 60 and people above 60 each have their own suitable zones.
If the sleeping zone cannot be changed, changing the direction of the feet gives about 50 percent of the benefit. Feet towards North is best, West is second, East only for children and early risers, and South never.
Zone-by-zone results of a toilet: SSW and WNW are workable, NW and ESE only in an emergency, and every other zone damages what that zone governs.
Workable: South-South-West (modern Vastu) and West-North-West. Emergency only: North-West (with a strong Moon) and East-South-East (septic tank). Avoid all other zones.
Blue is a natural cooling and antiseptic colour that brings devotion, truth and respect, keeps body temperature balanced, and gives mental peace and spiritual growth.
Sleep is an activity of Saturn; Saturn is a friend of Rahu-Ketu, who rule the South-West, and the South is the seat of Yama, so sleeping in the South-West or South is recommended, while sleeping in the East is not.
Why is a dying person laid with the feet toward the South?
So that life leaves the body quickly without getting stuck, because of the magnetic poles of the earth and the body. For the same reason a living person should never sleep with the feet toward the South; keep the head to the South instead.
My bedroom is in the South and its floor also slopes to the South. What should I do?
That is wrong; correct the slope first, because slope matters most. More important than treatments such as changing the sleeping zone is maintaining the slope of the room, which alone removes about 60 percent of the dosh.
A client's family sleeps all the time, late at night, until noon and again in the day; what is the reason and the remedy?
It is a lazy, dormant land where the energy is disturbed and the fire element has fallen to zero, since sleep comes with coolness. Perform a havan with samagri, light a cow ghee akhand jyot in the South-East for eight days, and burn dhoop daily with Bhimseni kapoor on the lamp's upper plate; within eight days everyone starts waking up.
If the Brahmasthan is kept open on the ground floor, should the same area be kept open on every upper floor?
Keeping it open on all floors is excellent. If that is not possible, a double height open at the Brahmasthan, for example about 20 ft, still balances the space element even if it is closed above. A survey found that houses with a double height at the Brahmasthan had more happiness and peace.
Do these effects, such as insomnia, apply to room doors, and does only the owner suffer?
They apply to the main door of the house, not to room doors. The people in whose name the house is and who invested in it feel the effects most, but other members can be affected too.
Parjanya is the devta of fertility, so why is married life said to be not allowed in a bedroom at E2?
A bedroom at Parjanya was never forbidden; it gives peace and deep sleep. What does not suit it is going there only for pleasure. When a couple goes there with the intention of having a child, following the method of establishing a kalash and keeping a diya, and conceives there, they give birth to the best child.
Is it true that one should not sleep near electric switches?
Yes. The more electromagnetic current there is near you, the more it affects the nadis, the body and blood circulation, so keep the bed well away from switch boards. The minimum distance is transcribed as 35 feet, which may be 3 to 5 feet; check the class recording.
What should be done if the TV is in front of the bed?
Cover the TV while sleeping, for example by putting a cloth or curtain over it. Electronic items should not be close around the bed in any case, as their electromagnetic currents make a person ill.
Why is sleeping recommended in the South-West or the South?
Sleep is an activity of Saturn, and Saturn is a friend of Rahu-Ketu, who rule the South-West. The South is the seat of Yama, before whom no one prevails. Sun and Saturn are enemies, so sleeping in the East brings husband-wife quarrels; only a king-like person such as a politician or minister can sleep there. Applying this friend-enemy logic of the planets to every activity lets you derive remedies yourself.
Yes. Asan wood is cheap, unlike sandalwood, and a whole bed can be made from it. If you have to sleep in a wrong zone, put asan wood under all four legs of the bed.
